Cox Communications is the third-largest cable provider in the nation. Similar to Comcast and Road Runner, Cox Communications only offers their broadband service to customers within their territory.
Cox uses Brightmail's Anti-SPAM with BrightSigTM technology. Like other Brightmail implementations at other ISPs, the technology resides on the messaging gateway and filtering takes place before reaching Cox customers. The Brightmail anti-SPAM solution is deployed by some of the world's largest Internet service providers and has helped Cox significantly reduce the amount of unwanted email that reaches their customer's inboxes.
Based on their Brightmail implementation, Cox gives their customers two anti-SPAM choices. Cox customers can choose to either have their email (that Brightmail has deemed as SPAM) blocked or flagged. If a Cox customer chooses to have their mail blocked, the Brightmail software will block the message at the gateway level and the message will never reach the recipient. If a Cox customer decides to have their mail flagged, the Brightmail software will place flagged mail in a Bulk mail folder where the user can review it later.
In addition to Brightmail, Cox also currently offers the McAfee SPAMKiller product for an additional monthly charge.
Our research has also shown that some Cox Communications ISPs have implemented an artificial intelligence-based machine learning solution from Corvigo, an anti-SPAM vendor recently purchased by Tumbleweed Communications which may lead to some permission-based email being falsely filtered as SPAM.
